Summer Fishing

Welcome to the Walleye Capital of the World!

Lake of the Woods walleye fishing in the Northwest Angle and Islands area is fantastic! We have a great population of walleye, sauger, muskie, perch, crappie, northern pike and smallmouth bass. Our location on Oak Island is right in the center of great fishing. No need for long boat rides to get to great fishing spots.

Walleye - We can always catch walleyes at the NW Angle and limits are the norm. But, you can't beat Memorial Weekend because the fish are all in shallow. You've got the lake to yourself as kids are still in school. Fall is great because the fish are following the emerald shiners around and the walleyes stack up in the bays.
Sauger - 34 feet, deep in the mud & sand all year round
Muskie - End of June the season opens, the best time is in the fall when you can troll for them versus casting all day earlier in the summer.
Perch - It's hard to target perch but it's good bonus fish and when you do find them they are good sized.
Crappies – Most years we can find crappie in May. Harder to find during the summer, look for them to start up again in September.
Northern pike – LOTW has better than average pike fishing year round.
Smallmouth bass – All of June when they are moved up shallow on their beds.

10 Facts About Lake of the Woods

Boats, gas, and bait are available at the lodge. The new fish cleaning/bait house is fully air conditioned, and is heated in the winter. We can clean your fish for you, or you are welcome to use the new facility. Guides are also available, or we are happy to mark up a map with some suggestions.

Summer fish fry's work out perfectly in our large screened in facility that keeps the bugs out. Complete with fish fryers, gas grills and picnic tables! Bring up your group and help yourself to the facility or ask for our help with your fish fry!
