4/14/14 2:41 PM CST Ice Depth: 20" Walleye season closes April 14 and opens again May 10th. On the ice, nice walleyes and saugers still the norm this week with a few perch and tulibees. In front of Graceton Beach and towards Morris Point Gap and Lighthouse Gap 16-18 or 20-22. Using Gold or pink tipped with live minnow. Pike are ready to run, try 8-10 near Zippel Bay or Four Mile Bay tipped with live sucker minnow. Use resorts for info before venturing out, snowmobile or ATV traffic only.On the Rainy River. Birchdale and Frontier accesses open to all boats. The river channel is open in front of Vidas landing but still 10' of shore ice. Open water goes just west of Clementson. Sturgeon fishing is open. "Walleye season open until April 14th and the pike season is open all year at LOW and great reports. Lots of hot spots this week filling limits of walleye, sauger, and perch. From Arnesen's, 16 mile, Long Point, and Zippel Bay try 19-22 morning/evening and 31-33' during day. Pink/white, pink/gold, bubble gum, and green/white the hot colors tipped with minnow. Morris Point and the Lighthouse Gap up to the Canadian border line has been producing in 22-26 during day or 15-20' morning/evening. Use gold or pink tipped with minnow. Mornings and evening bite better. No vehicles are on the lake, snowmobiles and ATV's allowed. Pike fishing good in 8-10' near Zippel Bay and Graceton. Try 9-12' moving east towards Bostic Bay, 4 Mile Bay and the Gap. Tip-ups with live sucker minnows or dead herring/ciscoes. Some resorts still pulling out fish houses daily. The Rainy River is open approximately 3 miles East of Birchdale, with open water showing at the Franz Jevne Rapids. Fishing good in shallow pockets 10-12 feet using gold or glow jig tipped with minnow. Up at the NW Angle, good fishing continues. Snowmobiles with snow on ice the best. 3/31/14 1:15 PM CSTIce Depth: 36" Permanent houses are off the ice, walleye season still open until April 14 and northern pike open all year. Walleye/sauger limits filling with plenty of eater sized fish this week. Reports good in many depths from 13-17' by Long Point, Zippel Bay, Graceton, and Morris Point; 16-20' off Pine Island; 19-24' in front of Lighthouse Gap. Gold, pink or pink/glow, green/chartreuse are the colors tipped with minnow. Electronics beneficial jigging. Morning/evening bite in the shallower depths. Pike tip-up fishing heating up in 8-10'at Zippel Bay, Bostic Bay, 4 Mile Bay and adjacent to Lighthouse Gap. Some resorts still providing portable day guides. Access points: Adrian's Road is open for vehicles, Morris Point for snowmobiles/ATV, Long Point for snowmobiles/ATV. Call ahead for details. On the Rainy River, open water is 10 miles East of Birchdale. Best depths 18-20'. Use pink, glow, or chartreuse tipped with live minnow or fathead. Up at the NW Angle, fishing remains excellent and anglers are still accessing lake with snowmobiles and collapsible houses. Call ahead to resort(s) for details this time of year.
