Up at the NW Angle, we have about 18-25 inches of ice on the Minnesota side and an average of 18 inches up on Ontario where we are fishing for crappies. We have anywhere from 10+ inches of snow to 2 foot drifts. On the Minnesota side, the bite has been good before 9am and after 4pm, picking a few up throughout the day. We have houses at Little Oak and on the south side of Oak Island. Fishing is starting to pick up on the south side of Oak. We are fishing in the mud and sand on the south side of Oak relating to points and structure in about 22-24 feet. At Little Oak, we are fishing right on the transition from rock to hard bottom and have a few houses out in the mud at depths of 27-32 feet. When fishing deep isn't working, 18 feet right on the rocks is producing the best. Gold, pink & white are the best on sunny days. Recommended tackle: Jiggin' raps, rippin' raps, Gemini, buck shots. - Jeremy Glessing, Sunset Lodge Ice Team On the Ontario side, the slush is limiting where we can travel with a bomber. The way crappies school, it's been a hay day, the best year yet. The downside is that it doesn't take long, and the size drops and the schools move. The more you search & drill, the more you'll catch! We'll be out scouting the next couple of days and ready for our next guided crappie trips this week. Recommended tackle: Tungsten jigs with a mustache plastic and a piece of minnow tail. - Dan Schmidt, Sunset Lodge Ice Team Until next week, good fishing! Sunset Lodge

2.22.16 Sunset Lodge Fishing Report Up at the NW Angle, we have about 18-25 inches of ice on the Minnesota side where our houses are at and an average of 18 inches up on Ontario where we are fishing for crappies. We've got about 7-8 inches of snow on top of the ice. On the Minnesota side, we are having to work harder than we typically do. Electronics are helping to improve success. Pink and orange jiggin' raps have been good. Also, buck shots and smaller jigging spoons. Pink, gold, green, red and orange colors have been the best. The best luck we're having is in 25-28 FOW. Our houses are about 7 miles south of the lodge. On the Ontario side, our guided crappie trips are still producing limits. We are using Tungsten jigs with a mustache plastic and a piece of minnow tail. Our current crappies spots are about 12-18 miles north of Sunset Lodge. We got to try out the new "tickle sticks" with 13Fishing this week! We've got some mid-week availability remaining for our Winter 2016 season, call if you are able to visit in the next month! Until next week, good fishing! Sunset Lodge Up at the NW Angle, we have about 20-22 inches of ice on the Minnesota side where our houses are at and an average of 20 inches up on Ontario where we are fishing for crappies. We've got about 7-8 inches of snow on top of the ice. This week are going to have highs at 0-5 above and lows in the teens below zero. We'll be making more ice! On the Minnesota side, with the warmer weather we've been having the fishing has been better in a little shallower 24-28 FOW. But, with the cold front moving in, fish should start moving a little deeper 28-32 FOW. Jigging raps, buck shots, and smaller spoons have been producing. We recommend red, gold, green, or pink colors. With steadier weather conditions, fishing should continue to pick up once the storm blows through. Our houses are all still located South of Oak Island. On the Ontario side, our guided crappie trip guests are catching many crappies even some over 15.5 inches on Tungsten jigs. (Available in our Bait & Tackle Store) We're leaving Sunset Lodge around 8am, returning around 5 or 5:30pm. This week we are looking forward to the arrival of the John Thelen Group who will be staying and fishing out of Sunset Lodge. John is an Otter and Lindy Pro. We are also happy to have Mark Romanack staying with us. He has a fishing TV show called Fishing 411 that airs on the World Fishing Network. Sunset Lodge 218-223-8211 [email protected] Up at the NW Angle, we still have about 22 inches of ice on the Minnesota side where our houses are at and an average of 16 inches up on Ontario where we are fishing for crappies. On the Minnesota side, the fishing continues to improve, the warmer weather has helped the bite. We are fishing by Little Oak, Norman & Shady Islands in 24-32 FOW. Jigging is working best in the morning and evenings. Dead stick is producing best during the day. Red Buck shots, gold spoons and jigging raps are getting the active fish to bite. For dead sticks, it seems like a whole minnow mixed with a Glow Demon or small gold spoon seem to be the ticket. We've been scouting around Garden Island, which is our late season spot, it hasn't turned on yet. On the Ontario side, our guided crappie trips are still producing very well. The crappie bite continues to be the best ever. It's as good as what Red Lake ever was and it's a daytime bite. Guided crappie trips include bomber transportation and Clam houses. Today, we are looking forward to the arrival of Gary Parsons and Keith Kavajecz-Walleye Pro's-The Next Bite TV. They will be fishing out of Sunset Lodge this week! Until next week, good fishing!
