My group and I wanted to thank you all again for a great trip. This was our second trip to Sunset and it was better than the first. This is truly a great lodge with great people. Jim was a great host and bartender for us, couldn’t of asked for a better trip. Looking forward to seeing all of you this winter. Here are some fish pictures, thanks again.

Sunset Resort,

I would like to extend my thanks and best regards to Dan and all the staff of Sunset.  We stayed for three nights recently and were impressed by the helpfulness and attitude of the staff.  We’ve known Dan for some time and he is eager to help point us to the best spots to fish and is always doing all he can to make our stay more comfortable.  Dan is a great addition to your resort.  In addition to Dan’s great service we were equally impressed by Samantha & Jim in the restaurant/bar as well as the guys at the dock, they all proved to be flexible, friendly and helpful.  You operate in a competitive industry and customer service is your best opportunity to separate yourself from others and the service we experienced was outstanding from Dan all the way down the line to everyone we had contact with during our stay.

In additional to the great service at the resort we enjoyed outstanding fishing as well.  Dan sent us to a remote area after walleyes and it proved worth the effort.  We did exceptionally well and discovered a unique way to catch fish.  My friend noticed he would catch a fish each time he set his rod down so he started “dead sticking” and it worked amazingly well.  He would set his rod carefully to keep the jig & minnow 6”-12” off the bottom and wait for a hit.  After an hour of keeping his secret to himself he told me what he was doing and we both had success by simply setting the jig just off the bottom and letting it sit.  The strikes were much more aggressive doing this as compared to the conventional jigging action. Once it was hit so hard he nearly lost his rod!   We looked like we were setting mouse traps as we carefully set the rod and adjusted the line depth but it worked surprisingly well!  We tried this technique in other areas with success as well but it was particularly effective in the calm bay we fished that morning.  Thank you again to Dan for helping us find the fish! 

 In closing I would like to say you have a lot to be proud of and I suspect you have many pleased customers.  We hope to get back up this winter and already are looking forward to a spring trip next year!

We had an unbelievable weekend of fishing out of Sunset Lodge Resort on Oak Island. Dan, the fishing wizard, showed us exactly where to find the fish, and we did! My husband, who has been fishing for 40+ years, said it was the best fishing he can ever recall. We caught around 100 walleyes  on Saturday, with the biggest ones being 26". Dan tells us fishing will be like this until deer season. The weather was beautiful, and it was a wonderful weekend on the lake. Thanks to everyone at Sunset Lodge!
