Muskies at the NW Angle

"We just wrapped up another full week on LOTW at Sunset Lodge. As always, We received great service on the docks from Travis and Corey. Thanks for your hard work in making the experience more enjoyable.

Fishing- We battled through 20+ mph winds that blew from 4 direct directions over 4 days. The weather is always crazy on LOTW.

Our focus, as always, was the muskies. We did not put the numbers in the boat that have in previous years put the size of the fish was definitely more impressive. The 2 largest fish were 49.5 and 50.25. While everyone seems to have a story of the “one that got away”, we certainly had several of those this week too. Even when the fish were not aggressively biting we continued to raise many large muskies. In fact the overall size of the muskies we were seeing was MUCH larger than the normal LOTW fish we’ve seen in years past. Most fish seemed to be in the mid to high 40’s with several that exceeded 50.

Mike lost one fish that we never got a look at on the first cast Thursday morning. The fish did not head shake or thrash. I just pulled away with as a true giant does. Even the 50.25” caught the next morning did not cheer Mike up much. When Mikes says “Big fish” after the hook set…..you know it’s a big fish. In fact he called the 49.5 and 50.25 ”small” on the hook set.

When our arms got tired we caught plenty of walleyes. We even found time to tag several +15” crappies, that never gets old!
